My 2017 Guide to Wanting to Working Out

How many of you are like me and find yourself lacking motivation to work out? I would love to be one of those people who is super consistent and super motivated. Working two full time jobs limits my time and sometimes I’m just so exhausted when I get home. I have made it a goal this year to try and be more consistent! I love working out, but sometimes I fall out of the habit and it’s harder for me to start again. So I’m going to try to make it a habit again! I have put together a little list of ideas to help you gain motivation and maybe even trick yourself into liking working out. If I can trick myself for a month, then I’ll probably be back in the habit and will be back to loving it! IMG_6279(My first workout of 2017!!!)

Try Something New!

Sometimes doing the same thing over and over can get mundane. I love trying new classes and new exercises to see what I love the most. For example, I recently just started working out with an online trainer! At first you may think that getting a trainer online is not as good as the real thing. I’m here to change your mind. I started doing Kayla and I had such a hard time staying motivated and wasn’t seeing results because I couldn’t stay consistent. Recently I started working with @trainerkelli through the @level212 fitness app. It’s COMPLETELY PERSONALIZED! I love it. She asks me what my goals are and tailors my workout to me specifically, so I can focus on which parts of my body I want to improve or what fitness goals I want to achieve. It’s 100 times better than a workout app that has the same workouts for everyone. If I have a really hard time with a certain workout, I can message Kelli and she’ll switch it up or I can ask her for advise on how to do it. She sets up my workouts for how many times I can fit in during the week and I have to check in with her, so I have a lot of motivation and I don’t want to cheat since it’s a real person and not a computer! There are videos linked to each workout and describe and show you how each one should be done. I’m going to be doing a post specifically about this later, but this has helped me so much over the past few weeks because it motivates me to get there! Image-7

Get a buddy!

Lots of people think this means you have to have someone who is going to do your whole workout with you. Most people want totally different results or just have different bodies that respond to different things. If you find someone you totally match with then woo hoo, maybe you found your “swollmate”. However, I think just having someone to go with makes it so much harder for me to say no! Half my problem is just getting there so if I have someone that is counting on me or who is willing to just go at the same time that helps me a ton! This helps me so much, even if it’s just driving to the gym together and we separate and do our own workouts!

Make a Bomb.com Playlist!

What is the worst thing that could possibly happen to me at the gym…forgetting my headphones! Music totally pumps me up and keeps me going! I read somewhere that music actually helps people work out longer and harder. Who needs pre-workout when you have Beyonce right?

Make it Convient for you!

You don’t have to go to the gym for a good workout! If you don’t have tons of time to drive to or spend at the gym, pop in a Jillian Michael’s video at home! Or go out for a quick run! Sometimes I just go over to the gym at my apartment complex when I’m trying to save time. It doesn’t have all of the machines that my normal gym does, but if it makes it easier for me to work out, why wouldn’t I take advantage of it?! Also you don’t have to work out at 5 AM! You workout when you have time. Don’t force yourself to do something that is not going to work for you. Remember we’re trying to make this about loving your workout again!

Set Realistic Goals!

I always over exaggerate mine. I’m like I need to lose 20 pounds! I need to work out every day! But when I look at my schedule 3 days a week seems much more likely. Start small and work your way up to your big goals. By hitting the small steps first you’ll see progress and it will be motivating. Then you can keep reaching for your ultimate goal. I get discouraged when I don’t see it happening right away and I think coming to terms with that will help me in the long run.

Don’t Overindulge, but Don’t Deprive!

As far as a diet goes, my best option is balance. I struggle with eating chicken and rice every day, so I don’t do it. I try to eat healthy, but I don’t deprive myself of a little treat or cheat day! If I go completely crazy on a diet I’m miserable. Some people are amazing at this, but for me a little bit of moderation goes a long way. If you’re miserable you won’t want to stick with it and ultimately you’re not going to see goals.

Have fun!

If you hate running, don’t run! Maybe try a Zumba class or Yoga! Find what you love and what makes you happy and stick with those exercises. Remember you are not the same as the girl next to you and different things are going to work better for different bodies! If you find something you love, and are having fun while doing it, you are much more likely to have it become a habit and you will look forward to your work out.

I hope these tricks were helpful and I’d love to hear what your thoughts are and also your goals and progress! Leave me a comment with what your health goals are for the year and if you have any other tricks you think work the best send them my way!!!

The 26 List

So since I only had 6 months for my 25 list, there’s a lot of things I didn’t finish…well, I didn’t expect to do ALL of them anyway, but here are the ones I did get done.
2. I kind of have a bike…it’s at home in my parents garage, but I have to go pick it up. So this one is only like halfway. Ok, not really.
5. Bought a new comforter.
8. Finished my Sex in the City DVD collection.
12. Learn to golf – I did take a lesson…does that count?
14. I did clean out the boxes under my bed.
22. I built that jewelry board, but is that a piece of furniture? I kind of think it counts.

Looks like I have some things to work on…Let’s make things happen this year.

1. run a half marathon.

2. buy a bicycle or pick up the one at my parents in California.
either a road bike or just a beach cruiser. i just want a bike and i’m going to get one.

3. finish all of my applications and get into nursing school.
(basically done with the apps at least)

4. go to three cities I’ve never been.
(outside of utah)

5. I want to do a triathlon. (part of why I need a bike…not the cruiser.)

6. re-organize and clean out my itunes.

7. decorate my living room. (halfway there)

8. start my savings account…yeah I know. I’m 26 and I don’t have one.

9. read three “meaningful” books.
-1 biography
-1 true story
-1 historical book

10. start my journal again

11. learn to cook something new every month.

12. watch friday night lights (the tv show)…i’ve heard it’s fantastic.

13. go to boston.
last year I wanted to go to boston to visit my friend Jenn, but she moved so…

14. go to NYC to visit Jenn. I love NYC.

15. pay off my credit card.

16. swim with a dolphin.

17. go to costa rica.

18. go to three concerts of bands/people i have never seen before.

19. learn to country dance.

20. see a baseball game in a stadium other than angels stadium.
(or dodgers or padres)

21. do a mud run.

22. buy a dining room table.

23. go to a fashion show.

24. buy a pair of christian louboutin heels.

25. make a scrapbook.

26. make a piece of clothing i would actually wear in public. (a halloween costume doesn’t count)

New Years Resolutions

It has taken me a little while to get around to this post, but I did write down all my resolutions a while ago.
This year I have quite a few resolutions. I don’t necessarily expect to keep them all, but I want to make them to help me remember what I want to try and do throughout the year, what mindset to keep, and what goals I want to try and achieve. It’s kind of like my “25 list” that I made last year.
Some of them are sort of frivolous and physical, just kind of fun. Some of them are for my health, body and mind. Some of them are to better me and progress my future.

1. Be Positive.
2. Do my hair more often during the week. I’m so lazy.
3. Be on time…to work especially. I have a nasty little habit of waking up late…
4. Be more adventurous with my wardrobe. I feel like I’m very predictable and plain…so this year I think I will try and buy things that are different and fun. I will buy what I LOVE and not just things because I want to buy something.
5. Actually put money into my savings account. I finally started one. I guess it’s time to be an adult. 🙁 O, and budget. Yeah…then maybe I can pay for school and do some things and I really want to do 🙂
6. Workout regularly. I’m hoping to do it at least 4 times a week, but we’ll just cross our fingers on this one 🙂
7. Eat healthy.
8. Accessorize more. And wear earrings.
9. Try not to complain so much.
10. Keep my room de-cluttered. I mean keeping it clean, but also not so many things everywhere.
11. Write more personal blogs. I post a lot everyday, because my blog is a collection of things that I see that I like, or want to decorate with, or that inspire me, but I need to remember to write about my thoughts and my life too.
12. Start my journal again.
13. Be kind.
14. Get into Nursing School. I have had a few setbacks with this one…in terms of not getting into the classes that I needed, etc. So I am finally finishing the classes I needed and hopefully getting in this fall…cross your fingers.
15. Eat Breakfast.
16. Read More. Watch Less. Be Active. (I stole this from my friend Janell…and added the be active part.) Pretty simple. I always come home and turn on the tv after work. While I think I still will some days, I need to read the stack of books next ti my night stand because I LOVE reading. I’ve just been lazy. And keep my other resolution of working out. 🙂
17. Travel. That’s all.
18. Do my nails. I’ve been lazy with this too.
19. Participate in a Triathlon, Half-Marathon, 5-K, etc.
20. Cook more, and learn more recipes.

I just need to be really focused on what I want this year.
Happy 2012…Hope it’s a good one.

The 25 List

So I got this idea from this cute girl, Courtney’s, blog (view here). Every year she makes a list of the things she wants to do or accomplish. This is my 25 list.

either a road bike or just a beach cruiser. i just want a bike and i’m going to get one.

5. FINALLY get a new comforter.

6. re-organize and clean out my itunes.

  • 10 pickled jalapeno pepper slices, or to taste – chopped

  • 4 teaspoons butter
  • 8 tortilla chips, crushed
  • 1/2 cup shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese

Directions

  1. Combine the cream cheese, sour cream, and pickled jalapeno in a small bowl. Set aside. Preheat skillet over medium heat.
  2. Slice each roll in half horizontally, then slice the rounded tops off the ciabatta rolls to make a flat top half. Spread 1 teaspoon butter on the doughy cut side of the bottom bun and 1 teaspoon butter on the now flattened top bun. Place half of the cream cheese mixture, half of the crushed chips, and half of the shredded cheese on the non-buttered side of the bottom bun. Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich and place the sandwich on the hot skillet. Repeat with the second sandwich.

My day in the OR

So today I went and watched my uncle preform a couple surgeries, so that I could see how I liked it and if it is something that I really want to do, etc. Ummm I loved it. I thought it was so cool. Of course I’m obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy and grew up watching ER with my mom, but I figured it would probably be a little different when the blood was oozing in front of my face and there was actually a body open in front of me on a table. It’s not really all doctors falling in love and drama, however that’s not necessarily everything I love about the shows. I did learn however, there are some similarities 🙂 So here are some things that I learned today which in the operating room:
1. Doctors are slightly ruthless with the human body. Yes, they use precision when cutting or using their instruments, but today I watch them cut a woman’s abdomen open and in order to move her stomach muscles apart they literally were pulling at them from each side like they were ripping open a christmas present. I was a little shocked. Wonder how long it takes that to heal.

2. Some women have the weirdest va-jay-jays. And some women do NOT groom. (my uncle is an obstetrician. I probably should have mentioned that.)

3. I am slightly proud of myself. First time in an operating room and I was not the least bit queasy. I think I may have found the correct profession. Cross your fingers that I actually get into school.

4. If your doctor pulls a mass the size of a cantaloup out your body, you probably waited to long to go see a doctor.

5. If you are already 40, have a mass the size of a cantaloup on your uterus, a giant cyst on your ovary, and endometriosis sites inside of your uterus you probably won’t be able to have children. That woman has a lot of faith.

6. Doctors actually have the funniest conversations during surgery. They make jokes, they talk about their life, and sometimes they’re even inappropriate…maybe Grey’s Anatomy isn’t that far off sometimes.

7. I love watching people come out of anesthesia. Need a laugh?

8. I really hope I don’t have to get surgery anytime soon because, the patient just looks so helpless and vulnerable sitting there on the table right after you are put out. It would be hard to just trust that when you wake up everything is going to be ok. Plus, you’re just laying there naked…so awkward. As a spectator, it honestly wasn’t that weird, but I’m glad I wasn’t the patient.

9. Surgery tools still look freaking primitive to me. Minus all the computer stuff and lapriscopes etc, the regular stuff just looks like it was made in the middle ages. Some of it is a little creepy.

10. Surprisingly, when they first cut into someone there is not that much blood. However, when you accidentally cut into a cyst, there is a lot of goo. I don’t recommend it.

Goals for May

So this month I have decided to get some things done in my life. I have had a lot going on the past few months and I feel like I just need to get a few things figured out. Then maybe the things I can’t exactly control will figure themselves out too or at least it will make things a little bit less stressful for me.

1. I am going to finish my nursing application. I am actually almost done with this, but I am going to complete everything and get my appointment set. (which I can’t have an until after June 20, but I want everything else done by the end of May).

2. I am going to figure out my finances. I tend to like to spend more than I save…so I am going to set up a little financial plan by the end of May so that I can try to “control” my money a little better.

3. So it’s bordering between spring and summer (although the weather is still acting like winter), but I’m finally going to do some Spring Cleaning. I just need to get rid of some things in my room.

So like I’ve admitted before on here, I like to read my horoscope. In Elle’s May edition the horoscope for Aries said,
“With five planets in Aries this month, you’ll be spunky, persuasive, and determined. On the 1st, when Mars, your guardian planet, meets with Jupiter, you can take the initiative to grasp a dream dear to you…
This month is about you and your desires, not fitting anyone else’s agenda”
Anyway, I don’t know about all that planet stuff, but I just like to read it. And maybe that extra affirmation, whether real or made up, might be just a little push I need to feel determined right now. So, that’s what I plan to do. Focus on the stuff that I need to get done. Also, I feel like if I write it down, then hopefully it will push help me get it done too. 🙂
