Dove Real Beauty Sketches

This is one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. I think that every girl should watch it…actually just everyone. So please watch it and share it.

Dove had an FBI sketch artist come in, without seeing any of the women, draw them how they described themselves. Then he drew them how a stranger who had just met them described them. When they compare the pictures it’s amazing to see the difference. They don’t even look like the same people. We are so critical of ourselves that we miss the things the other people love about us…the things that we should love about ourselves, or at least the things that we shouldn’t let bother us. We’re all beautiful in our own way…I definitely need to work on seeing myself in a better light and I hope this video helps other people to do the same.

Things you should have and know by 30…

This year I turned 27 and while I still like to think that’s pretty young and not that close to 30 apparently a lot of people like to give me crap about it…(thanks guys!). So I’ve been doing some thinking about what I want to do with my life etc…a love my job right now, but I did always want to go back to school; I want to get a new car and I’ve been thinking about buying a townhouse or even just a small house; what do I really want?…etc…you know those kinds of things. I mean I’ve been out of school for a while, and I’m not that young anymore…I’m single…so I would like to have some things settled…know who I am…all that great stuff. But I like to think I’m not “old”.

I feel like everyone’s so scared of turning 30, but maybe it’s not so bad. I mean, yeah I have to work out a lot more than I did when I was 18, but sometimes that’s ok because it’s like stress relief and I like to. Some days I would rather die than go run and yeah I’d really like to eat that donut or burrito without feeling like I gained ten pounds, but that’s how my brain works ok! I’m gonna feel kinda bad about it! I’ve already come to grips with the fact that I’m not 18 anymore, so I know I’m going to have to work out. I know my skin isn’t going to be the same! But 3 more years can’t be that bad. Getting older has to have just as many perks and pitfalls…so bring it on. Plus, at the risk of sounding conceited, people mistake me for being 5 or more years younger than I am and I’ll take it, with the age on my ID.

Anyway, I heard about this book a while ago and I really want to read it. 20130219-223621It’s by Glamour Magazine, so it has to be great right? They featured it not too long ago in their magazine and here are some great tips from it. I just thought I’d pass them along since it’s kind of along the lines of what I’ve been thinking a lot about lately and I loved the article!

By 30, you shave…

1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.

2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.

3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.

4. A purse, a suitcase, an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.

5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.

6.A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.

7. The realization that your actually going to have an old age – and some money set aside to help fund it.

8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account – all of which no one has access to but you.

9. A resume that is not even the slightest bit padded.

10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.

11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.

12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.

13. The belief that you deserve it.

14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few facets of life that don’t get better after 30.

15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better after 30.

“…a sense of humor, especially when it comes to yourself.” – Lea Michele

“…a sharp tongue and the restraint to use it wisely.” – Lisa Leslie

By 30, you should know:

1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.

2. How you feel about having kids.

3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend without ruining the relationship.

4. When to try harder and when to walk away.

5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.

6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.

7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.

8. Where to go – be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat – when your soul needs soothing.

9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.

10. The your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.

11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.

12. The nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.

13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.

14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.

15. Why they say life begins at 30!

“…how to leave people happier than you found them.” – Rachel Roy

“…that even though not everything gets better after 30, you’ll be happier and more confident – so you won’t really care!” – Georgina Chapman

“…how to treat yourself so that your employers and romantic partners and friends and even your children know how and you want to be treated.” – Kimora Lee Simmons

So needless to say…I do think that a lot of these things are things that I have learned, am beginning to learn, and still need to work on. Some have been the hard way…some are pretty easy to understand, but I think most of them are definitely good ideas to remember.

A few things that I know at 27…

…I want to be a mom, for sure. hands down, however this works out in my life.

…not to try soooo hard.

…I can be risky with my clothes because they’re just clothes and if people don’t like them then o well!

…the difference between your “friends” and your friends.

…don’t let idiots ruin your day.

…moderation in all things.

…you have to stop comparing yourself to other people (yeah still working on this one!)

…don’t chase someone who doesn’t chase you back.

…don’t take your family for granted.

I’ve got a lot more to learn, but I can’t wait to read the book! and I hope when 30 comes it won’t be too scary 🙂 I think this year is gonna be a good year.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

I may have posted this before, but it’s one of my favorite poems. I love Pablo Neruda!88fdd47fec0a5915f208ded8d87da17dI thought today would be the worst, but it was actually a good day for me, for the most part. Lots of love from my new co-workers and boss! Flowers and too many candies to count! And now I get to go to dinner with some of my best friends for girls night. Sometimes those are much needed.

Whether you’re single or dating or married…or complicated…I hope you all have a great day and feel loved!Happy-Valentines-Day-2012-Heart

Eat, Pray, Love – Indonesia

So, I’m finally getting around to posting about the last part of Eat, Pray, Love. (It kinda fits in since Valentine’s Day is this week anyway…we’ll pretend that I did that on purpose.)

In this book Elizabeth combines the first two parts of her journey in Bali. In Italy she searched for happiness and enjoyment, in India she searched for a spiritual connection, and in Indonesia she finds the balance between the two and falls in Love.

So as with the tradition, here are my favorite quotes from this section:

“Why they always look so serious in Yoga? You make serious face like this, you scare away good energy. To meditate, only you must smile. Smile with face, smile with mind, and good energy will come to you and clean away dirty energy.”

“The ingredients of both darkness and light are equally present in all of us, and then it’s up to the individual to decide what will be brought forth.”

“…people universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will maybe descend upon you like fine weather if you’re fortunate enough. But that’s not how happiness works. Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it…”

“It’s easy enough to pray when you’re in distress, but continuing to pray even when your crisis has passed is like a sealing process, helping your soul hold tight to its good attainments.”

“Cleaning out all your misery gets you out of the way. You cease to be an obstacle, not only to yourself but to anyone else. Only then are you free to serve and enjoy other people.”

“Even in the worst tragedies and crisis, there’s no reason to add to everyone’s misery by looking miserable yourself.”

“And love is always complicated. But still humans must try to love each other, darling. We must get our hearts broken sometimes. This is a good sign, having a broken heart. It means we have tried for something.”

“I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not only to see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than I care to count with the highest potential of a man, rather than with the man himself, and then I have hung on to the relationship for a long time (sometimes far too long) waiting for the man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance I have been a victim of my own optimism.”

“To lose balance for love id part of living a balanced life.”

“You’ve had more than enough teachings. You have been given everything you ned to know in order to b free. It’s time for you to go out in the word and live a happy life.”

“I love you, I will never leave you, I will always take care of you.”
