So it’s two months later and I’m finally getting around to posting about my Vegas trip…I know! I’m such a slacker. I’ve been so busy! No excuses…ok here it is.
It was so fun! We went down for Flagship’s work party and a few of us drove down together that Friday morning. I always think it’s kind of fun to carpool because you look forward to it more and you get to all catch up outside of work. We stayed at the Cosmopolitan, which was gorgeous and I have never stayed there before. (You can see a small glimpse of the room below). We got there and took a little breather and then started getting ready for the night. First, we hit up Holsteins for dinner and then went to Zarkana for our Cirque show!
Just hanging out in our room before getting ready.
Dinner at Holsteins. They have the best burgers ever! I opted for the lobster rolls and I was not sorry at all! Such a great choice! I highly recommend going there! Not to fancy, but definitely a really fun, chill place to eat!
A few photos of all the girls dressed up before we went to the show. (Rachel, Kristin, Ashley, Alliesha, me, Myleka, Ally, Amy, Kendra.)
Alliesha and I before Zarkana!
Zarkana! This show was different than other ones I’ve been to, but it was really good. It was like a magic show almost, with funny little acts in between. Each big act was like a magic element with circque performers doing these amazing stunts. Like for example, this girl came out juggling all kinds of numbers of balls, but balancing on things…while tons of other performers were going on around her at the same time…so it’s not just your normal juggling act of course. And there is humor too. It was good.
My friend, Teesh.
What I Wore…
This is one my favorite dresses that I have ever bought…maybe actually my favorite. I love it! It was so sparkly and so fun! Perfect for Vegas, and perfect for a party. I actually wore it again on New Years because I loved it so much.
Sometimes it’s really hard to not just go to bed at the end of the day without washing your face and doing “your routine”. I figure if you’re going to brush your teeth, you have time for your face. That’s what everyone sees when they look at you! If I never had to worry about skin problems (whatever they may be) I would die a happy woman…but alas everyone’s got something…and if you don’t, I’m sure it’s because you already have a great routine. So here are tips from some fabulous beauty bloggers shared with Lucky Magazine mixed with a few of my own! Please comment and share yours as well! You never know what might work for people.
1. Splurge on miracle foundation. She uses ‘Cle de Peau Beaute Refining Fluid Foundation’…not cheap, but she swears it makes her skin look radiant.
2. Use Retin-A! It turns over cells, cleanses pores, prevents lines and wrinkles, and minimizes scarring. She also said it helps with her “eye bags”.
3. Exfoliate! She uses vibradermabraision to take off dead skin cells.
I definitely like to exfoliate! It takes away all the left over yuck on your face and makes it glow! (see next section for this as well). I use a Clarsonic Brush to do this and it works great for me! I also recommend Fresh ‘Sugar Face Polish’ as well. (Fresh has a polish for your lips, face, and body! I love them! See this post for more from Fresh!)
1. Exfoliate with baking soda. Mix it with a little water – it’s not too grainy or too light, and it’s cheap!
2. Vitamin C = glowing skin. She recommends Garnier ‘Skin Renew – Dark Spot Corrector’ to make your skin have an airbrushed look! (This is only $17 at most drugstores.)
I have tried the baking soda method and I totally love it. I highly recommend! I also like to get facials once a month if I have the time and money because I think the massage and peels leave your face bright and healthy looking. I recommend a Lactic Peel, because it definitely leaves my face brighter and younger! It’s my favorite peel!
Here are just a few more great products that promote a fabulous glow!
– Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare ‘ Alpha Beta Glow Pads’
– NARS ‘Monoi Body Glow II’
– St. Tropez ‘Tanning Essentials Anti-Ageing Face’
Grace Atwood, stripesandsequins.com, shares her favorite products below. She says she has super dry, flaky skin, so she uses these everyday.
1. Josie Maran Argan Oil at sephora.com
2. Zelens PHA+ Bio-Peel Resurfacing Facial Pads from us.spacenk.com
3. Dr. Jart + V7 Cleansing Foam at sephora.com
4. Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum at caudalie.usa.com
I can’t stress enough to DRINK WATER! It sounds obvious, but drinking enough water everyday keeps your body hydrated, but also your skin. It can also help reduce dark circles under your eyes as well! I totally agree with her about the ‘Josie Maran Argan Oil‘. I’ve posted about this before (here), but I seriously love it. You can use it anywhere on your body or for your hair also. I recently started using ‘Josie Maran’s Argan Daily Moistuirzer’ as well. I put it on every night before I go to bed and in the morning. It has SPF, which you need everyday, and it’s ultra-hydrating. For sure my favorite face lotion. If you are prone to oily skin, argan oil and this lotion is still great. You can use it just once a day, but your skin needs oil in it. Using tons of cleansing methods sometimes takes too much of the skin’s normal oil out so your body reacts and produces more. Giving it the little bit of oil everyday will reduce your skin breaking out.
Get Perfect Pores
Eileen Dautruche, misswhoeveryouare.com, recommends using a Clarisonic Cleansing Brush (see above) and ‘Biore Combination Skin Skin Balancing Cleanser’. She uses it morning and night to clean deep into pores. It leaves your skin refreshed and results in fewer breakouts!
I use a gentle cleanser everyday followed by astringent. I have been trying a few different kinds to decide on my favorite, but it really just depends on how strong of one you need. I also use Clear Cell medicated acne lotion by Image Skin Care when I need to and do a mask once to twice a week. I’ve been using Image Skin Care line for this as well, which was recommended by the lady I go to for my facials and it’s a miracle worker! (Also see the mask recommened below..I recently tried this as well and I love it so much!
DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE! This is one of the easiest ways to clog your pores. She recommends Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Mask (at fresh.com or sephora.com). This is the mask I was referring to above!Have you ever wondered why you break out when you’re sick? This happens to me every time I get sick and I’ve been sick for like the past 5 weeks! It’s driving me nuts! When you are sick your immune system is down. Your immune system is what fights off bacteria, which is exactly what acne is…bacteria. So if you can tell you are getting sick, you may have to add a few extras to your routine or just make sure you’re being extra careful! Here is a great routine I got from Lucky Magazine as well for helping fight off breakouts!
1. Wipes – these will exfoliate physically and with a salicylic acid. Try ‘Yes to Tomatoes – Blemish Clearing Facial Towelette’. $8 at yestocarrots.com and Target stores!
2. A dual-formula leave on lotion, like ‘Mybody – Obliterate 2-in-1 Extreme Refining Solution’, $90 at lovemybody.com. This will kill bacteria, unclog pores, smooth, perfect, and doesn’t irritate your skin!
3. If a breakout does pop up, even with these great tips, try using the ‘Fresh – Umbrian Clay Face Treatment’ from above. $48 at fresh.com and sephora.com. Seriously this stuff is the best. Spot treat the area and watch the bacteria killer work!
*ideas from Lucky Magazine and their favorite beauty bloggers, plus my own tips!
So usually I don’t really do a big post on the after-party outfits, but there were some pretty good ones for this year’s Oscars, so why not? I think most of the people who wore my favorite dresses for the show ended up wearing my favorites for the after parties also…For me my favorites were (and not necessarily in this order)…
1. Jennifer Lawrence
2. Naomi Watts
3. Amy Adams
4. Lily Collins
5. Kate Bosworth
6. Diane Krueger
7. Amanda Seyfriend
8. Nina Dobrev
I know that’s a lot, but there were so many good ones, and a lot of people who weren’t at the Oscars, but came after! Let me know who your favorites were!
Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein; Ohmigosh I love this just as much as her Oscar dress. It’s fluid and gorgeous. Everything looks so good on her.
Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta; Wow…again…which one of her dresses do I like more? I guess when you’re nominated you get to pick from the best. Beautiful!
Naomi Watts in Emilio Pucci; Absolutely love this too. She looked fabulous in both of her dresses tonight. Loved!
Anne Hathaway in YSL; I can’t decide if I like this dress better or worse than the one she wore to the show. This one doesn’t flatter her figure at all, but I like the color better. The other one was just so plain and blah. This one is just shapeless. I didn’t like her choices at all. Maybe she’s pregnant?
Selena Gomez in Versace; This isn’t really my favorite. I feel like she’s trying to look a lot older than she is. It’s a pretty dress, but I wish she would have worn something more fun and in a bright color!
Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad; I love this! I love the two different prints and the color!
Kate Bosworth in Giambattista Valli; Gorg! I am glad that she wore a short dress and I love her hair! One of my favs!
Solange in Emilio Pucci; Love the dress! Hate the hair! It’s not bouncy enough…it looks like it’s falling over or else I would love it.
Natalie Portman in Dior; Simple and sweet and beautiful. She always looks perfect.
Georgina Chapman in Marchesa; I love Marchesa…and if you can look this pretty when you’re pregnant…wow.
Hilary Swank in Valentino; I really like this dress, but I would have picked something a little bit less heavy looking for a party. I mean it’s red and fun, and has the light material on top, but I think the train and the long sleeves makes it look a little bit heavier than I would like. It’s gorgeous though.
Olivia Munn in Marchesa; While I think the dress is pretty…It seems to be missing some pieces…lol (and I didn’t even show it from the side). The detailing is amazing though.
Kate Beckinsale in Monique Lhuillier; I love this look! So fun and not too serious. So perfect for a party!
Kourtney Kardashian in Brian Renne and Kim Kardashian in Donna Karen; honestly I don’t know how the Karsdashian’s get into anything important, but I think Kourtney is hilarious so I’ll forgive that…I do think her dress is a little bit too long though. If it was a bit shorter I would love it. Or even all the way to the floor would be better. I think that Kim’s fits better with the event. I don’t really like her white shoes. I think it would look better if they were gold. I just don’t know why she’s even there!
Miranda Kerr in Valentino; I think this dress is very different, but I like it!
Elizabeth Banks in Alexander McQueen; Such a fun dress! I loved it! Orange is hard to pull off, but it looked beautiful. I love this material for spring. I did not really like her hair though. It was too high in the front and slicked on the sides.
Diane Krueger in Giambattista Valli; Ohmigosh I absolutely love this. I think it’s one of my favorites because it’s so different! It’s fun and cute, but sophisticated in a way also! I love actually love the width and sleeves.
Heidi Klum; Umm I don’t really know what to say about this, but I don’t like any of it…the dress, the cleavage, the hair…ugh. I think it makes her look chubby…and “The Body” is anything but.
Zooey Deschanel in Valentino; Usually I really like her funky style, but I didn’t like this. It looked like a sparkly sister wive.
Nina Dobrev in Naeem Khan; She is seriously so pretty. I swear everything looks good on her. I love this print.
Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy; I’m in love with this dress that she performed in and then wore to the after parties! It totally stands out against her skin and I love the strappy details!
Britney Spears in Michael Cinco Couture; I actually like her hair brown here and the dress isn’t too bad either.
Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhullier; I love this whole look! Exactly what I would wear to a party!
Zoe Saldana in Givenchy; This almost reminds me of a nightgown of some sort, but I definitely like it more that the dress she wore earlier in the night.
I liked ‘Gone Girl’ by Gillian Flynn so much I rushed out and bought her first novel right away. I just finished it! She is seriously great at keeping you on edge.
Camille Preaker has had a trouble past, and after her recent stay in a psych hospital, she is sent out on assignment for a small newspaper in Chicago to report on the murders of two adolescent girls from her hometown of Wind Gap. It had been 8 years since she had been home, hardly speaking to her mother during that time or her 13 year old sister that she barely knew. Camille tries to uncover the truth behind the violent crimes against these two young girls, while forced to relive her own childhood traumas that she has been desperately trying to remove from her memory these past years.
This is definitely a page turner and you won’t believe the ending.
The Oscars!!! The biggest awards ceremony of the year! This is what we wait for…and for fashion too! Don’t worry. I sat on my couch for probably like 6-7 hours watching the red carpet shows, the actual show, and after parties. I love all of it. Now I have to make sure I got away all of the movies that got so many awards.
But now onto the dresses! What you were really all waiting for right?
Halle Berry: This is amazing. I had too many favorites already, but I loved this! She had this made for her 007 tribute presentation and I think it totally fits! No one else had a dress even close to something like this. (Versace)
Catherine Zeta Jones: She looks beautiful, but I’m pretty sure she hasn’t aged in like ten years. I’m not sure if the dress is my favorite though. It kind of looks like cheap gold foil. She looks great in anything though.
Giuliana Rancic: The more I looked at this dress, the more I started to like it. At first I thought it was boring, but all of the cuts make it so pretty.
Jane Fonda: Are you kidding me? How old are you and you look that good? This color and fit were so great. I guess those work outs really do work. Wow is all I have to say…and that’s in a good way.
Kelly Osbourne: I’m not a huge fan of this dress, but it wasn’t one of the worst. I didn’t like the the neck straps were supposed to be all over the place…and I just didn’t really like the beading or glitter or whatever that was. I thought the cut kind of made her arms look big too. She is in a lot better shape lately so I’d think she would want something that would make her look smaller.
Kerry Washington: These colors on her are gorgeous. She has some of the best fashion sense around right now. I loved this dress and the detail on top.(Miu Miu) Kristen Stewart: This look kind of turned into a diaster. I should have put this on my worst dress, but I think the dress itself isn’t bad. It’s a gorgeous dress (if you watched and saw it on stage…the detailing is beautiful). It’s just too big on her and makes her look bigger, and her hair is messy. It’s the Oscars…at least try. I’m honestly surprised she was invited to present in the first place. (Reem Acra)
Sally Field: I am really shocked at how good she looks. I love this on her. The train is amazing and the color is beautiful. Go Sally!
Adele: I’m glad that she wore her hair down this time. I just can’t get over how every time she gets ready her hair and makeup are perfect. I think she looked great. (Jenny Packham)
Helen Hunt: She is wearing H&M with $700,000 worth of diamonds…so…the only problem with that is her dress is wrinkly and didn’t fit right. I don’t know if she was trying to be affordable because obviously the diamonds weren’t. I’m not trying to knock her being different, etc…but you can tell that it wasn’t a nice dress. Either that or she should have gotten it fitted to her.
Queen Latifah: I like this. I think she looks classy and elegant. I like that she kept it simple.
Little Q: She is the cutest little thing. I can’t get over her! I need to watch the movie that she is in, because she has the cutest little personality and seriously, being nominated at 9?! Anyway, I’m glad they didn’t over dress her and kept her age appropriate.
Maria Menounos: She looks like a darker colored barbie! Gorg! I love it so much. This dress is so bright and beautiful. I’d steal it!
Reese Witherspoon: She had the best hair of the night! She just had a baby and she looks fantastic! The color was gorgeous on her. (Louis Vuitton)
Octavia Spencer: I love her. She is so cute and always looks great. I do think there was just a little bit too much fabric going on, but she definitely knows what is good on her body! She is very classy. (Tadashi Shoji)
Jennifer Hudson: I think she looks fantastic. This color is beautiful. Her hair is amazing. The only thing I don’t like is I think her shoes are clashing a little bit. (Roberto Cavalli) I also think she looked great in her performance dress.
Renee Zellweger: I like the dress, it’s not one of my favorites, but it fits her perfectly. I did not like her hair at all though. It looked like she didn’t even try.
Selma Hayek: At first I didn’t like this very much, but it grew on me. It’s very different than what she normally wears and I think I like it a lot now. I don’t like the little tiara in her hair though.
Olivia Munn: There is something I really like about this, but then something I’m not sure about. I like that no one else wore anything like this and I like the colors.
Sandra Bullock: I think she looks really good, but she didn’t take any risks with this. At first I didn’t like her hair, but then I figured if she had put if up it probably would have been more harsh and I would have liked it less. So I liked it, it just wasn’t a fav. (Elie Saab)
Samantha Barks: I really like this. Very simple, but elegant. I like that she didn’t do something way crazy.
Anne Hathaway: I seriously hated this. Yes, it’s very simple, but then she has on this huge necklace that doesn’t match really at all. The back had this big tie that was messy and looked like she just tied it and jumped out of the car or something. She was up for a huge award and this dress was just boring. It was kind of an ugly color and did nothing for her skin. If you saw her from far away she would have looked naked. Plus her nipples were sticking out so bad! Eek! And…I think she could have used some product in her hair? (Prada) I liked her performance dress way more! (see below) She should have just worn that…even thought that’s not my favorite dress either.
Melissa McCarthy: I always feel bad putting her on the worst dressed, but she always kind of picks big drapey things. Yes she is bigger, but she can get something tailored to her that still looks good. This color isn’t great and the slit is black. It’s kinda weird. I wish she would try a little harder.
Nicole Kidman: I kept wanting to like this, but I just can’t. On the red carpet the top actually looked like leopard print, and I hate the circles at the bottom. I would have like this a lot if it was just all one color. Her body looks great at least. I feel like her hair just looks messy. (L’wren Scott)
Zoe Saldana: I saw this dress and loved the top…then I saw the bottom. I HATE the bottom. I don’t know if it’s the grey colors or just the fact the it’s short and then fades into the colors or what. I think it’s all of it. I just don’t like the bottom half at all and that was enough for it to be in my worsts. It’s not an oscar dress for me at all.
Nancy O’Dell: This fits her really well, but it looks like a smurf rainbow. I hate this too. This should have just been one color of blue and it would have been much better.
Kelly Rowland: This is a long fall from the Grammys. The shape is wrong. It looks like is off kilter or something and her hair just doesn’t look good up in that bun. I know she’s in great shape too, but her legs don’t look good in this dress. I just hate it.
Charlize Theron: She looks so sleek and clean here. I love the shape of this dress. I can’t believe how good she looks with short hair. Her face is just perfect. (Dior)
George Clooney and Stacy Keibler: He’s starting to look older :(, but I think it’s because of the beard. (Armani) She looks absolutely amazing. I love this dress on her. Fabulous pick. The detailing accentuates all of her best features. Plus Clooney is a pretty good accessory. (Naeem Khan)
Naomi Watts: This dress is so modern! The cut is amazing. It fits her like a glove. I love love love the sparkle on this dress. (Armani)
Amanda Seyfried: This dress is so beautiful! I love it! I can’t get over the details on this dress. McQueen makes the best things ever. (Alexander McQueen)
Jennifer Aniston: I loved this dress! I think it’s very different than what she normal wears on a read carpet. The color was beautiful on her and the shape was so fun.
Jennifer Garner: She has looked fabulous this whole awards season. I love this so much! From the color, to the jewelry, to the amazing bow/ruffles trailing down the back of the dress. Can’t get enough! (Gucci)
Jennifer Lawrence: She is another one that has been amazing this awards season. She is really good at being youthful, but not childish. I love the poof at the bottom! It’s like a Cinderella dress…and it was perfect because she won! I really liked the backwards necklace that she wore also. (Dior Haute Couture)
Amy Adams: This is just fabulous. Who wouldn’t want to look like a princess? The skirt is poofy and young and gorgeous. I love it! I would die to wear this. Plus I like that her hair contrasts that dress and is a little bit undone. It’s perfect together! (Oscar de la Renta)
Jessica Chastain: This was hands down my favorite of the night. She looks like an Oscar. Absolutely beautiful. True hollywood glamour. The beading was completely tailored to fit the curves of her body, which was amazing. Her lips were the perfect color and her hair was perfect. Fabulous! (Armani)
I think this was my favorite part of the whole awards ceremony. It’s Les Mis portion of the musical tribute. I literally have watched it like 7 times now. I’m so obsessed! Enjoy!
Also, this is Jennifer Lawrence’s interview after winning best actress. I think she is so cute and so funny.
I love love love the “Like a Rolling Stone” Collection at Free People right now. The boho looks is fabulous and so great for spring and summer! I wish I was better at pulling this off, but now I may have to try a little harder. It’s funny that you have to try hard to look like you’re not. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong! Seriously obsessed.
Here are some of my favorite items from the collection.
If you ever feel a little bit stupid, just dig this up and read it again; you’ll begin to think you’re a genius…
